 | Descendants of John Denney of New Kent County Virginia Our family can be traced as far back as1702 when John Denney appears on the roll of George Keeling's New Kent Lower Company of Foot. Over the next 60 years our family followed the line of the frontier across Virginia, including the counties of New Kent, Hanover, Goochland, Albemarle, Lunenburg, Halifax, Bedford, Amherst, Pittsylvania, Grayson, and others. During the 1760's, most of the family began to move into North Carolina. With the Zachariah Denney clan winding up in Granville, Orange, Caswell, Person, Wilkes, and Ashe Counties, while the Samuel Denney clan wound up in the Rowan and Surry County sections of the state. Trace our path through Virginia and North Carolina. |

| HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONALD! This little guy, Donald Denney turns 70 on April 9, 2007. We love you Dad!
TENNESSEE Most of the Denneys that eventually made their way too Tennessee sprouts from John Denney of New Kent, County, Virginia. My particular branch of the Denney family sprouts from three brothers, Claiborne, John, and Benjamin that migrated from Granville County, North Carolina to Smith County, Tennessee in the early 1800's. From these three brothers, a family of over 10,000 descendants have spread across the country. Their descendants include an Academy Award Winner, a former Vice President of the United States (ok, ok they are the same guy), and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as countless other colorful and noteworthy individuals. There is also a connection to Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman of the Cherokee, through this line. For more on the line go to the Family Tree and Charts Page or to read the primary documents go to the Tennessee Page. |
